I used to dread early mornings. I was stuck in the mindset of "I need more sleep" - a pattern I fell into during early motherhood when exhaustion was constant, and waking up before the sun felt impossible. I was convinced that getting up early would leave me drained, moody, and falling apart by noon.
But everything changed once I made restful sleep a priority. Through a mix of self-care, bedtime wind-downs, focusing on hormone balance, and getting morning sunlight, I discovered that waking up early didn't deplete my energy. In fact, it did the exact opposite.
The Journey to an Energized Morning
I didn't leap out of bed at 5 a.m. on day one—far from it. My transformation happened slowly, week by week, with realistic expectations and gentle changes. I respected my limits and gave myself grace, knowing that sleep still needed to take precedence.
There were days when rough nights called for morning snuggles with my little one, and I soaked up those warm, cozy moments without guilt. But little by little, the dreaded ‘getting out of bed’ part got easier. I started looking forward to those 1-2 hours of solitude before the day officially began.
Creating a Ritual That Works for You
What I love most about my morning ritual is how adaptable it is. It began with quiet meditation and gentle, intuitive movement—exactly what my body craved at the time. Then it evolved into mindfulness, journaling, and sometimes diving into a podcast episode I couldn’t wait to take notes on.
Now, it’s becoming a space for productive activities that fuel my personal growth and business goals. And that’s the beauty of a morning ritual: it can be whatever you need it to be.
If you're worried about feeling tired, here are some things that helped me:
- A Good Morning Starts with a Good Night– Establish a bedtime wind-down routine that supports restful sleep. If you need help getting started, grab my Sleep Guide here.
- Baby Steps – Don’t try to shift your wake-up time all at once. Start by setting your alarm just five minutes earlier every couple of days.
- Low Expectations, High Flexibility – Release the pressure to be productive right away. Let your body and mind adjust at their own pace. This is your time to fill your cup in whatever way feels best.
From Reluctance to Joy
I can hardly believe it myself, but now I pop out of bed nearly two hours earlier than before. My mornings are calm, slow, and entirely mine. I’m no longer racing the clock or feeling frazzled before the day even begins.
I genuinely love my little ritual, and I hope you find the perfect flow for your mornings too. If you’re ready to start, grab my Morning Ritual Guide—it’s packed with tips, step-by-step guidance, journal prompts, and more to help you create a routine that fuels your energy and well-being.
